People are often drawn together when they hear unusual phenomena. This is what happened in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost, ten days after Jesus ascended into heaven. Masses of people were drawn by the sound like that of rushing wind and heard a group of folks speaking about the mighty works of God in many different languages. This was the miracle of God’s Son, Jesus Christ, drawing people together to hear the Gospel of the Kingdom of Heaven, the promise of power from on high.

Pentecost Sunday is the day we celebrate the birth of the Church. This was God’s plan and Jesus paved the way to fulfil it through His death on the cross and resurrection. His chosen disciples were the men He trained and prepared to send out into the world, beginning with the people of Judea and Samaria. They were His witnesses who brought the message of saving grace to all who would receive it.

Take time to dwell on the amazing things that happened then and how the Lord is sending His Holy Spirit still, transforming the lives of countless people through His Word today.
